Kiss Chaste

My daughter has only two more weeks of kindergarten, she is growing up so fast. The school year ends on Dec 1st and next year she'll be going to Big School. Her interview went fine, she wasn't too shy and she is definitely ready for Class 1. Yesterday she glanced sideways in concealed adoration at her big brother and said "Next year I'll be able to see you all the time."

He is taking his duties as older brother seriously and took it upon himself to prepare her for the rigours of the playground by teaching her the finer points of kiss chase today. I kept well out of the way, overhearing things like "You have to kiss him on the lips, then he has to chase you" as I couldn't trust myself not to pour the cold water of parental angst on this necessary rite of passage, which was accompanied by cascades of giggles.

My children are growing up far too quickly now!

  1. It is both amazing and heartbreaking, isn't it? It's so easy to expect them to behave like a "big kid" and then when you realize they suddenly are, it's... scary.
